Car Insurance Daewoo (Car Insurance). Whats the difference between gas mileage of a pontiac grand prix and grand am ?

Whats the difference between gas mileage of a pontiac grand prix and grand am ? I am 18 and im wondering first of all if Pontiacs are built nice . I am looking for something not too crazy on gas , a cheap used vehicle that I can take on long roadtrips with me and my friends that looks sexy... I love How pontiac looks , but any other suggestions would be much appreciated , im looking to spend around $3000 on craigslist

The funny thing is that in most cases there was not much difference in the gas mileage. In most cases the Grand Prix has a 3.8 v6 which is a good engine and would get most people 24 city and 30 hwy. The Grand Am had a couple of different engine from a 4 cylinder which would get 24 to 32 mpg to a couple of v6 engines which would get 24 to 30. If its just a choice I would suggest the Grand Prix because the 3.8 was a great engine. Depends on the year in question. However in general, the Grand Prix is considered the big brother to the Grand Am and is a larger car and heavier, which translates to the Grand Am getting better gas mileage. Hope that helps but I need years of the cars for specifics

Daewoo . Chevy Lumina roughly 1994 Lower Gasket antifreeze leak?

Chevy Lumina roughly 1994 Lower Gasket antifreeze leak? I'm a little confused. My friend has a Chevy Lumina and it's running a bit erratically and is sucking down coolant by the gallon. She brought it to an auto shop and the guy started doing an oil change and said a lot of coolant is in the oil and that the lower engine gasket is show and if she wants her car fixed then she needs a new engine. She had the head gasket replaced last year, and it started acting up a few months later and she parked it until spring. I've never run into a lower engine gasket, but I see them available for purchase. I can't find any instructions or anyone online talking about them which seems odd. Do they exist, are they called something else? Also, is it possible this is the head gasket leaking again? When the car is running about 1 gallon of coolant leaks per 20 minutes of driving. The mechanic didn't do any disassembly but said he only seeks coolant in the lower engine oil and not the upper and I have no idea how he's making that statement. Seems a bit off to me, but I'm somewhat new to this game. car insurance.

Daewoo . Is it too risky to buy a '97-'02 Honda or Toyota if it has more than 100k miles?

Is it too risky to buy a '97-'02 Honda or Toyota if it has more than 100k miles? I'm looking for my first car. And I've been told by several people that a Honda Civic or a Honda Accord or something of the like would be a good bet. I've also been told (by some pretty old school people) that you shouldn't buy any car with over 100k miles. But, I've also heard that Hondas and Toyotas will run forever if you take care of them (regular maintenance and whatnot.) So my question is, is it unwise to buy something of that nature (a '97-'02ish Honda or Toyota) if it has over 100k on it? Thanks. car insurance.

Daewoo . How to Change a Valve Stem

The valve stem on a tire is a small rubber tube extending out from the rim. It has a spring-loaded metal air valve that is released by a push pin in the center. A ball-shaped end with a ring slot fits into the steel rim and is held in place by pressure. Mechanics recommend replacing the tire valve whenever you buy a new tire, as valve stems tend to wear out. A faulty air valve can cause a slow leak or a total loss of air pressure.
Difficulty:Moderately Challenging
Instructions Things You'll Need
Jack
Tire iron
Pressure gauge
Rubber mallet
Air compressor or air pump
Soapy water
Pliers
Valve stem inserter tool (optional)

Step by Step :
1
Remove the tire and set the parking brake. Use the wrench fitting on a tire iron to loosen the lug nuts of the tire in need of a new valve stem. Use the jack made for your model to lift the corner of the car holding the affected tire. Twist off the lug nuts completely, and take the tire and rim off.
2
Break the bead, or seal, around the edge of the tire that fits against the rim. Deflate the tire by holding the valve stem pin in with the release tab on a tire pressure gauge. Pound on the edge of the tire near the rim with a rubber mallet to break the seal. This will require considerable force.
3
Take out the old tire valve. Grip the existing valve stem from either side of the rim firmly with pliers and pull it through the hole. It does not matter if the old stem is destroyed in the removal process.
4
Insert the new valve stem. Remove the cap from the new valve stem. Lubricate the outside of the stem with soapy water. Push the threaded end through the hole in the rim from the inside. Grip the top with pliers and pull the stem through the hole until the ring slot is seated in the hole. Use a valve stem inserter instead of pliers (see Resources). Twist a valve stem puller around the threads of the air valve, and use it to pull the stem through the hole and get it into place.
5
Seat the tire in the rim and inflate to the proper pressure. Use an air compressor or air pump to fill the tire.
Tips & Warnings
Visit an auto shop to have the balance of the tire checked after inflating the tire to proper pressure and remounting it on the car.

Daewoo . How to Replace a Tire on the Rim

Replacing a tire on a rim isn't overly complicated if you have the proper equipment and know-how.
Difficulty:Moderately Challenging
Instructions Things You'll Need
Tire machine
Valve core remover
Wheel weight hammer
Tire lubricant with wand
Pry bar

Step by Step :
1
Deflate the tire on the rim. Remove any of the weights in the rim using a wheel weight hammer. If the rim has static (i.e., stick-on) weights, pry them off with a flat-head screwdriver.
2
Stand the deflated tire up against the tire machine. On the right of the machine is the bead breaker. Place bead breaker bar on the tire where the bead and the rim connect. Don't let the bead breaker arm touch the rim or it might damage it. Activate the bead breaker bar. Different model tire machines offer different options to activate their moving parts. Most have a pedal that when pressed compresses the arm and squeezes the sidewall of the tire, breaking it free from the rim.
3
Place the tire on the machine's turntable with the top facing upward, and then activate the locking jaw mechanism to hold the rim steady. Swing the adjustable tool arm over to hug the rim on the right side. The adjustable tool arm has a metal or plastic duckhead that covers a small part of the rim. Adjust the arm for a snug fit.
4
Press down on the sidewall of the tire behind the duckhead and insert a pry bar inside the tire bladder. Pry the bead of the tire upward and over the duckhead. Activate the turntable to move clockwise while holding the bead over the duckhead until the top bead is free from the rim. Repeat for the bottom bead. You can discard the tire.
5
Place the tire flat on the top of the rim over the right side so you can swing the adjustable arm inward and lock it against the rim. The tool arm should be in the tire's center hole with the desired top of the tire facing upward.
6
Pull the tire clockwise by hand to manipulate the bottom bead over the duckhead and onto the top edge of the rim. Activate the turntable clockwise and the machine will pull the bead onto the tire.
7
Press down on the upper sidewall of the tire on the side of the duckhead so the bead is below the rim and the duckhead is in the front. It should still be above the duckhead in the back. Carefully activate the turntable clockwise. The top bead seating on the rim may require you to push the sidewall down near the duckhead as the turntable moves the bead is not ripped. Again, the turntable and duckhead will pull the top bead onto the rim.
8
Using the attached air nozzle, inflate the tire to the proper pounds per square inch.
Tips & Warnings
Balance the tire when you're finished mounting it, especially if it's for a car or truck. Trailer tires may not need to be balanced.

The distributor cap (shown in Figure 5-13) sits atop the distributor to protect the parts inside from the elements. Current enters and leaves the distributor via the coil and spark plug wires that run through holes in the cap. Chapter 12 shows you how to remove the distributor cap so that you can get a closer look at what's inside. It also tells you which types of distributors should not be tampered with. Non-electronic Electronic The rotor The rotor (see Figure 5-14) sits atop the distributor shaft inside the distributor. As the distributor shaft turns, the rotor rotates with it and points toward the terminal at the base of each spark plug wire so that each plug can fire in the correct order. For example, when it's pointing at the terminal of the wire leading to your Number 1 spark plug, it directs the current to that spark plug at precisely the time when the fuel/air mixture in the Number 1 cylinder is waiting to be exploded. Figure 5-16: A set of points. The way they do this is simple: Attached to the base of the shaft that the rotor sits on is a roundish wheel with bumps on it called a cam wheel. The bumps are called cam lobes, and there is one for each spark plug. As the cam wheel turns on the shaft, each cam lobe contacts the moveable point and pushes the points open. The tiny space created between the open points is called a gap. Each time the points open, electric current passes to the rotor, which directs the current to a particular spark plug wire. This causes that spark plug to "fire," producing a spark that ignites the fuel/air mixture in its cylinder. The points are then brought back to the closed position by a spring. Problems with points The gap between the points must be set at a enough apart to break the circuit, the current precise width to ensure that each spark plug arcs across continuously and the points burn fires at just the right time and intensity. Chapter 5: The Electrical System: Your Car's Spark of Life 1Q2 The condenser The condenser (shown in Figure 5-17) is an electrical "sponge" that keeps the points from burning up. This small metal cylinder prevents the electricity from arcing across the gap when the points are open, which would cause the points to burn. Condensers should be replaced periodically, along with the points and rotor. Chapter 12 shows you how to do so. Figure 5-17: A condenser. Other parts found only on electronic distributors Electronic distributors employ electronic parts. The good news is that they tend to be relatively trouble-free. The bad news is that if they break down, you have to pay a professional to replace them. They include the following parts: An ignition module is a transistorized component that triggers the ignition coil to fire high voltage. The module is a "non-wear" component that replaced the old-style "breaker" points in the early to mid-1970s. It is usually found in or around the distributor.
